What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is not mind control, it is a state of deep relaxation where you are aware of everything around you. You are not asleep nor are you unconscious. You can come out of hypnosis any time you want. During Hypnotherapy, you do all of the work. The therapist is the guide to your subconscious mind. You are in complete control and can't be asked to do something that you don't want to or don't believe in. You have to want to change the behavior that is blocking your path.
Imagine that your subconscious mind is like a huge filing cabinet of memories and everything else that you do without thinking. Your conscious mind learns how to do things (for example, tying your shoes) and then that action is given to your subconsious mind to file away. However, over time things get misfiled for one reason or another. This can lead to a lack of confidence, a fear of spiders, comfort eating, etc. It is the therapist's job to help you locate the file. You and only you, will need to pick it up and file it correctly.
